Position Title: Membership and Community Coordinator

Location: Pasadena, California
The Membership and Community Coordinator leads the church’s efforts to welcome, incorporate and nurture both new and established members and friends, as part of the church’s overall mission to create and grow an inclusive religious community connected by love, spirit, and service.
Hours: 20 hours/week. Flexible weekday schedule to be planned with Sr. Minister during business hours. Some evening meetings required. Sunday hours required: 8:30 am- 1:00 pm
Membership, Retention and Volunteer Recruiting
Partner with staff and volunteers to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, newcomers, and members that promotes good stewardship and commitment.
Support diverse and inclusive Sunday morning Welcome Table, Greeter, Usher and Coffee Service teams
Connect current members with volunteer, leadership and fellowship opportunities to deepen their relationship with the church and the larger Unitarian Universalist world, including our district and denominational activities (PSWD programs, General Assembly, etc.)
Provide atmosphere of generous recognition and appreciation of volunteers, including host annual spring Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.
Schedule, plan and host Volunteer Hospitality training every August before Church Year begins
Provide monthly “New to Neighborhood” and membership classes, coordinate New Members Sundays up to three times a year and plan accompanying events and receptions
Assess existing membership programs and procedures, modify or develop new ones as needed, and ensure continuity in services.
Provide oversight, organization and support for the lay-led Chalice Circle program
Serve as staff liaison to the Accessibility in Ministry program and Neighborhood People of Color
Submit monthly board report on membership activities, due to the Sr. Minister by the Thursday before the Tuesday board meeting
Work with Office and Communications Coordinator to use technology and print materials to reach out to surrounding local communities, including colleges and universities.
Maintain accurate member database, regularly updating terminations and resignations
Update photo membership directory every 3 years starting with the 2018-2019 church year
Establish data tracking and reporting procedures to evaluate the church’s success in connecting with newcomers and members and maintaining online member database

● Maintain a courteous, friendly, calm and professional demeanor
● Ability to develop relationships with members and visitors and respect confidentiality
● Knowledge of Unitarian Universalism and liberal religion
● Attention to detail and organization skills
● Ease with technology: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, dropbox and google docs
● Database proficiency
